Steps to your Fine Arts Diploma

Our regular Diploma program (now entering its 40th year) can be accomplished by a series of certificate stepping stones:
1) Fine Arts Fundamental Certificate  (Visual Arts) previously First Year Diploma
2)Fine Arts Advanced Certificate (previously Second Year Diploma Program) and
3)Fine Arts  Diploma ( previously Third Year)
Each of these PCTIA accredited programs are  7 months in duration.

A select group of our students choose to continue with the Gallery-Level Post Diploma (Master) year.

Curriculum:
VCA now offers  many classes in a semi-intensive way whereby courses are taken twice a week and completed in six week modules. Not only is this method fruitful in terms of modern learning theory, but, along with our six-times-a-year start-up dates,  it also gives our learners flexibility  depending on their life circumstances and needs.
Besides the regular diploma program, we have other PCTIA approved
“Occupational-Related” 3-month certificates in a variety of career options such as AnimationIllustration, Sculpture/Mold-Making,   and Textiles.
All these certificates also count towards the final diploma.

International Students: Please enquire regarding special spring programs at info@vca.ca

To Apply for Registration:
You can register with us by phone 250-598-5422 or in person if you are coming to Victoria.  You should have a high-school graduation certificate, or can enroll as a mature student after 19 years of age.
We would enjoy showing you the school and explaining all the programs to you.

Portfolios:
You could bring in your artwork portfolio to us at that time.  Or, if you prefer, you could send us 5 to 10 scanned images or photos of your “best” work by e-mail. (info@vca.ca)
We are more interested in looking at your portfolio to see where your talents lie and to get some understanding of your creative interests.  Our experience with students is that motivation to keep working, and the courage to be original, counts more than the “craft” level you may have developed in your work by this time.  This is because we know you can learn your craft from our very inspiring teachers who are all professional artists regularly showing their work.  One of the things you can do in your time at the college is to develop a very comprehensive portfolio to showcase your work and launch your career.
Since we are fully accredited by PCTIA, the post secondary government agency which oversees colleges like ours, our students are able to get Student aid and student loans if necessary.
