ILLUSTRATION FUNDAMENTALS 101A:

This beginning illustration course (along with the accompanying support courses) teaches the fundamentals of illustration for art students at entry level. It serves as a central specialization course leading towards the Illustration Certificate and automatic membership in the Island Illustrators Society.
Areas of studies cover visual rendering, layout, conceptualizations and graphic design.
Spring 2012: every Friday ( 9:30-3:30) for 12 weeks.

ILLUSTRATION 201A: BUILDING A PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO
Instructor: Joanne Thomson
This course emphasizes developing a unique personal style and producing images suitable for publication and business practices. You will work in dry and wet mediums to complete your illustration works with emphasis on consistency of style. You will build on your skills of drawing, colour, composition, layout and design leading to completion of 10 portfolio pages and the assembly of a professional looking portfolio.
Pre-requisite: Illustration 101A or permission by the instructor based on your portfolio.

ADVANCED ILLUSTRATION 301A:
Instructor: Joanne Thomson
In this course we will build on your experience with concept drawings and thumbnail sketches to engage with real-life opportunities to put those skills to work in practicums such as design work for VIHA and the ECOFAIR.
Emphasis will be on short-term illustration projects,portfolio building and professional presentation skills which you will need to impress clients, so you can get out there and find paying gigs.
Pre-requisite for this course is Illustration 201A
Completion of 201A and 301A fulfils requirements for an Advanced Certificate in Illustration.
